Construction 4D and interactive tools

Rehearse the build before you break ground.

Building it right, before you build it.

I help contractors and project teams win work and plan delivery by rehearsing the build in 4D, and I build bespoke interactive tools in Unreal Engine and Unity. I do the work myself, from the programme to the final frame.

More than ten years in construction technology: BIM, 4D planning with SYNCHRO, and real-time visualisation in Unreal Engine and Unity.

A ten-storey tower, rehearsed floor by floor A tower rises one floor at a time as a 36-week construction programme plays. Each floor shows amber while it is being built and turns teal when it is complete. MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUG SEP OCT L01 L02 L03 L04 L05 L06 L07 L08 L09 L10

What I do

Three services for construction 4D

4D sequences for tenders and briefings, 4D models your planners can rely on, and interactive tools for bid and site teams. Each project is scoped on a call and priced in a written proposal.

For bid teams, planners and project managers

4D construction sequencing and animation

Your programme linked to your model and played as the build, week by week, so a bid panel, a client or your site team can see how the job goes together.

For projects in the Gulf, continental Europe and North America.

For planning, bid and site teams who work in 4D

4D planning and SYNCHRO support

A 4D model your planners can rely on: the programme linked to the model in SYNCHRO 4D or Navisworks TimeLiner, checked, and ready for the bid or the site team.

For projects in the Gulf, continental Europe and North America.

For bid, site and design teams who need more than a video

Bespoke interactive applications in Unreal Engine and Unity

Interactive tools built for your project in Unreal Engine or Unity: 4D viewers and dashboards, VR and AR walkthroughs, site inductions and rehearsals of critical operations.

Tools that play a construction programme or rehearse a sequence of works, such as a heavy lift, are for projects in the Gulf, continental Europe and North America. VR walkthroughs, inductions and design reviews have no regional limit.

Compare the services

4D work is for projects in the Gulf, continental Europe and North America: sequencing and animation, planning and SYNCHRO support, and any application that plays a construction programme. VR walkthroughs, site inductions and design review tools that do not play a programme have no regional limit.

Why it helps

See the build before it happens

A Gantt chart asks people to imagine the job. A 4D rehearsal shows it to them, week by week, in the order you plan to build it.

  • Win the tender

Evaluation panels score what they can follow. A 4D sequence shows your method, phasing and logistics in one clip, and gives your bid team something to walk the panel through at interview.

  • Show everyone the same sequence

A client board, a neighbour or a new site team can follow the build on screen without reading a Gantt chart, so the whole project works from one picture of the job.

  • Find the conflicts before site does

Played in 4D, a slab before its columns, two trades in one zone in the same week, or a laydown area across a delivery route shows up on screen, while it is still a change to the programme and not a delay on site.

Who it is for

For bid, planning and project teams

Contractors, and the client and project teams who work with them.

How it works

Call, proposal, delivery

Nothing is priced from a list. The same steps run every project, from a short tender clip to a full 4D model, and nothing starts until you accept the written proposal.

  1. Tell me about the project

    Day 0

Use the form or email me: what you are building, where, and when the tender or the work is due. A short note is enough.

  2. A 30-minute call

    Reply within 2 working days

You and I go through the programme, the model, the deadline and who will see the result, at a time that suits your time zone.

  3. A written proposal

Within 3 working days of the call

Scope, timeline, price and assumptions, in writing. Nothing starts until you accept it.

  4. Delivery with previews

    At agreed points

I share previews at the points set in the proposal, so you can steer while changes are still cheap.

  5. Handover

    On the agreed date

The final files with short notes on how to use them, and the project files where the proposal includes them.

More on how I work

From a client

Best unity developer I ever worked with.

Client review on Upwork

One person, from the first call to handover.

I do the work myself, so the person you brief on the call is the person who links your programme, builds your 4D model or writes your application.

FAQ

Questions before you get in touch

Why a call first, and not a price list?

Every 4D job and every application is different: the size of the programme and the model, the deadline, and who will watch the result. A 30-minute call lets me understand yours, so the written proposal that follows within 3 working days sets out the scope, timeline, price and assumptions for your job, not a guess from a list. Nothing starts until you accept it.

I have a tender due soon. Is there time?

Often, yes. Put the submission date in your first message and I plan the work back from it, with previews at agreed points. If the date is too close for everything you want to show, I say so on the call and suggest what fits in the time.

What should I send before the call?

Whatever you have: the programme, the model or a sample of it, and the date the work is needed. A short note is enough to arrange the call.

Large files are easiest to share as a link from the service your company already uses, such as OneDrive, Dropbox or WeTransfer, or your common data environment. Paste the link into the form, or email it to joe@digitalrehearsals.com.

Which projects do you take on?

4D work is for projects in the Gulf, continental Europe and North America: sequencing and animation, planning and SYNCHRO support, and any application that plays a construction programme.

VR walkthroughs, site inductions and design review tools that do not play a programme have no regional limit.

Will you sign an NDA and keep my files confidential?

Yes. I am happy to sign your NDA before you send anything. I do the work myself, your files are used only for your project, and nothing made from them is shown anywhere without your written permission.

Which time zone are you in?

I work on UK time: GMT, or BST from late March to late October. I reply to every enquiry within 2 working days and arrange the call at a time that suits your working day.

Have a tender or a programme to rehearse?

A short note is enough. I reply within 2 working days to arrange a 30-minute call, and a written proposal follows within 3 working days of the call.
